My fight against Leukemia / Mijn gevecht tegen Leukemie     - by Rick Haan
Be yourself, life is too short to be someone else

Together!

Normally, I would go to the UMCG for the treatment since I'm now over 18 years old, and the Prinses Maxima Centrum is primarily for children up to 18 years old. However, because I was still in the treatment process, I was fortunately able to receive treatment at the Prinses Maxima Centrum. The advantage of this is that you have a room to yourself, so more privacy, and there is a parent room adjacent to it, so you're not alone. My mother gave up her job so that she could be with me most of the time.

My father and brother stayed home at first to work and take care of our pets because life goes on at home and bills still need to be paid. After 4 weeks, my mother goes home for 2 weeks, and then my father comes to stay with me for a week.

After that, my brother comes for a week.

For the remaining time that I still have to be here, my mother returns. And that's how we've arranged everything, and we've firmly decided that we're going to do this togheter.

Together, we are strong!
