My fight against Leukemia / Mijn gevecht tegen Leukemie     - by Rick Haan
Be yourself, life is too short to be someone else

Going home again.

I was unexpectedly allowed to go home earlier and went home on Saturday, 20-05-2023!
So far, things are actually going pretty well with me, and all the checks at the Princess Máxima Center were good too 👍🏻😊.

❤️👌🏻 The prednisone is being tapered off, and if my cell count is high enough next week, my restrictions might be slightly eased 💪🏻. This means that I can finally eat everything again and be slightly better protected against bacteria and viruses.

I've had a few more check-ups, and I'm off prednisone now. Tomorrow, on 05-06-2023, we'll see which other medications can be reduced. My liver isn't too happy with all these medications... I'm currently taking about 30 pills a day.

I'm at home, and many people think, "Oh, Rick is home, so he must be better..."
Unfortunately, it's not that simple, and there are still many things I can't do, and it will take a long time before I can do everyday things that others take for granted.

I do find it challenging to get through the days because every day is a wait to see how much energy I have and what I can and cannot do that day.

The frustrating part is that there are still many things I can't do, like enjoying a nice terrace on this lovely weather.
